I finally play Control, and wow! I didn't expect to enjoy it so much. It was mainly the universe and gameplay that I loved. Because I enjoyed discovering the different entities and environments of the office in the side quests much more than the rather classic main story. And the fact that we had a AAA game that draws heavily on the SCP Foundation to build its universe is an incredible opportunity, because you don't see that every day. I'm curious to see a DLC in particular where Alan Wake returns, especially since I loved the game he was in.
Hitman: Codename 47 is an interesting game to play, but not a fun one to complete. I completed some of the first levels but had to follow a guide to do so because there is no indication whatsoever, I am not saying that this is a bad design choice, it is interesting to force the player to explore and find ways to find objectives, objects and different ways to assassinate targets. But in a world where even games focusing on exploration give you some guidance to objectives, we could say that this game has not aged well. However, the game can be found on a low price on stores, so it might be interesting to check it out as it's the first installment of a classic series.
Deus Ex is a classic for a reason, it contributed to to the Cyberpunk genre and the Immersive Sim (2 reasons then). I clearly underestimated it, knowing its reputation but seeing the visuals before playing it, I was afraid of a old janky experience, oh boy was I wrong. Okay well it can be clunky, but damn, it still holds up amazingly well, even in vanilla, in which I played. the different playstyles and choices are amazing and so well incorporated in the game that the gameplay just feels right. However, I would not recommend an up front playstyle where you gun down everyone and everything you see. The stealth playstyle with the different augmentations is very satisfying, you have to wait, here the steps of your enemies around the corner, before striking their back, peak gameplay in my book. I can only imagine what it was to play it on day one in 2000. I'm currently going through the four major games in the Deux Ex series so I won't be replaying this one right now, even though I'm keen to go through it again and make different choices and picking different augmentations. I strongly recommend it to play the vanilla version for a first playthrough, and don't worry, I played it on GOG, using a patch to play it in 2560x1440 on Windows 11 and it ran like a charm. Go for it!
Hollow quickly became on of my classics. The gameplay is amazing, the ambiance is top notch and the lore is captivating. It's crazy that this was made by 3 people and is sold for less than 15€? Buy it, even at full price, you won't regret it.
There is not really much to this other that it's fun, it still looks good and it play very well. The game is not mind-blowing in any way but still recommendable for someone who want some fun action and driving! I was surprised by the amount of customization for Max and his car, you can have your unique car! At 20€, it's a steal!
Just like Joseph Anderson's video title, these are my thoughts on God of War. The voice acting, the story, the art direction, the presentation, the gameplay, THE MUSIC(!!), a lot of things are done well in this game, like a lot. The game also achieves to mix up its gameplay in the middle of the adventure (no spoilers), which for a AAA game, was a really good surprise. Now, there's just one aspect that I don't like in God of War, it stretches its game time a bit too often and in ways I don't really like. For example, at one point in the game, you spend some hours to go to the summit of a mountain, but whoops, too bad, you don't have the magical object to enter the mountain. There are a few moments where thigns like this felt so unecessary. But at 25€, this is a bargain, you won't regret it!
