It's just poorly made, after Simon 1 and 2 you will likely be disappointed by the moon logic at play paired with a trudging character speed. Small tweaks could have this a really strong game but I think adventuresoft were past their best work by this point. Still better than Simon 3.
I tried to like it but it's just poorly designed and poorly implemented. The introductory cutscene is good but after that you're greeted to a horrible mishmash of the GUI, Sprites and the backgrounds being entirely different styles and resolutions that all seem to be improperly scaled. Then it holds your hand unnecessarily in some places but then lets you wander 4 screens over before telling you "I think I need something from X" in the irritating nasal voice of the protagonist who really needed more filler dialogue to stop the same line being used every time you click something the game doesn't want you to. The pathfinding is also incredibly weak and the combat, although the most polished part, suffers from the controls being so awkwardly spaced on the keyboard that there's no comfortable way to do anything. This forces you to jarringly use the mouse that suddenly pauses everything. Lastly there are a few gamebreaking bugs, one not loading the character into the scene outside of the town causing the game to softlock and making you load and go around. This wouldn't be a problem if the game didn't make you backtrack so damn much but the majority of the gametime is wasting time moving through empty redundant screens so I would imagine this isn't the only place something like this happens. All in all it's just an unpolished mess. I tried so hard to like it but everything is just so unpleasant that it really just needs to be started over with a more competent project lead. I really wish I hadn't helped kickstart this.
