What Remains of Edith Finch

Indie-Masterpiece

I left this game in tears. What a beautiful experience. Thank you! I feel a deep connection with the game and developers. It is a rather short but extremely packed, story-driven game rich in atmosphere and character. I caught myself thinking much about my own life and connection with myself and my family. Without saying to much: Edith returns to her family's house some years after she has moved out. All her familiy members died years ago and she discovers the story of each one of them. I got to know and love every family member in this short period of time (three evenings of gameplay for me) and am thankful for this very well written and inspiring game.

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition

Why you should love the child in between

I get why people say its ‘the worst of all Witcher games’. If I had to make a ranking, yes, part two would come last. TW2 has the misfortune of being the child in between. Thing is - it is still a fantastic experience. A big step up for CDPR after the first game which was a nearly perfect and still is an amazing RPG more than a decade later. I hated that TW1 crashed on me around every half an hour or so. Thankfully part two ran fluid and never crashed on my machine. However beware of your save files and delete them every once in a while, otherwise it will slow down the game. Here is what I loved about TW2: + intriguing story, choices with impact + fantastic graphics for 2011 (still are in 2019!) + dense forests and villages, overall great atmosphere + excellent sound design + at times breathtaking cinematic presentation and acting + like part one it has phenomenal quests which never feel repetitive and always interesting I missed an earworm like ‘Peaceful Moments’ from part one which was just the best. Witcher fans will or have already played part two. If you’re new to the series I think you should play part one and two before playing the third. They are definitely worth the money and time. Become a Witcher, make your choices, go your path and slay monsters. Thank you CDPR for a phenomenal franchise and distinct gaming experiences. Cheers!

The Witcher: Enhanced Edition

Still a fantastic game in 2019

Though the The Witcher series has been on my backlog since I first heard of part 2 back in the 2009 I think, I only got to play it just recently. I am currently playing TW3 on PS4 and am about 40 hours in. Someone else wrote in their review ‘I feel I paid way to less for what I got’. I can only agree on that for all three games – especially TW3. The quantity and quality of the digital goodies you get when buying these Enhanced Editions on GOG is just admirable. I especially loved the soundtrack which I can still enjoy after the finishing the game. You really get to appreciate CD Projekt Red and their fantastic games. Also, I am absolutely excited for the development they made. You can see significant changes from one game to the next. Nothing feels copy-pasted and about all relevant areas have been worked on from the ground up in each game. Something that lacks in the COD franchise and Assassin’s Creed for example where entire mechanics or worlds have only been adjusted a little in some games. Sure, the combat in TW1 is something else. But that is exactly why I liked it in some twisted way. The different sword-styles for different types of enemies are a unique thing. Here is what I loved about this game from 2007 and why I will keep it in mind as a fantastic RPG: + overall feel / tone set through graphics and primarily through phenomenal score (best of all three games in my opinion) + mature and authentic presentation of the story and topics like racism + realistic moral grey area + choices you make and their impact (SPOILER: how blown away I was when the villagers in the first chapter turn on you after you helped them all these hours before END) + voice acting (excellent!) + skill trees (great design, they just absolutely fit in the game) Due to all these factors I'd simply recommend this game and both it's successors. Cheers!
