I haven't played a game that "gets it right" as much as this one in decades, honestly. It is incredibly rare that a style of gameplay gets revived in this fashion and manages to pull everything off *this* well. It is apparent to me that the people that made Shadow Tactics simply "gets it" when it comes to this type of game, and it is incredibly reminiscent of the core gameplay of the old Commandos games, but updated and transposed into a different setting without breaking anything that was great with those old games. Really, this feels like a labor of love and is an absolute joy to play.
Really, the title says it all. All the needless always-online stuff and timed shit in a single-player game holds this game back far more than it should.
