CARRION

Unique and Magnificent Game Design

The developer could teach a masterclass of game design. Every level's layout, every new puzzle, it's all expertly designed to lead you naturally to your next objective whether you're consciously thinking about it or not. Most combat situations have multiple solutions so you can approach them as you please. Also you get to be a friendly monster comprised of nothing but gnashing teeth and writhing tendrils who can cuddle up to spooked humans to comfort them. 10/10, only note I've ever had about this game is that I always want more.

CARRION Demo

Giddy Apocalyptic Fun

Basically: Play the demo if you haven't already. Stop reading, go play. It's short and fun. Carrion('s demo) efficiently fosters both the mentality and the power of being an amorphous abomination bent on devouring humans and not getting set on fire. The controls are responsive and intuitive (though I'd appreciate the option to change the "attack" button away from MMB), the sound effects reference iconic horror films and the gore is gratuitous and... more gratuitous. Like, delightfully excessive. You're permanently soaked in blood so everywhere you go you're slathering it on the walls. It's fantastic. Somewhere between hurling objects at people with guns and smashing a floating sentry into the walls - first to disable it and then out of some compulsive desire for vengeance because it shot me a bunch of times - I fell in love with this delightful little gem. It's basically a puzzle game where the puzzle is "how do I kill X" and the reward is "I get to kill X really violently." I am a simple man. I have simple pleasures. One of those simple pleasures is hurtling several meters of gooey blood-soaked flesh out from a duct and blanketing a mob of humans with gnashing teeth, vomiting writhing tendrils out at anything that might have escaped. In short: they've got a fantastic basis for a full game and the only limit is their imagination with the puzzle-like scenarios, the overarching narrative, and what quirky abilities they decide to give the delightfully murderous tentacle monster they've created. My only complaint is that now I have to sit and wait for them to actually make the darn thing.
