I usually play at the hardest mode in any game, but this one ain't hard, it's just broken, the time your characters take to retrieve resources at the last deposit it's longer then the time they can be outside, and there is no callback command when they are at the last deposit, so save scumming it's the only way foward since seens that when you reload the game it replenishes a little bit of the characters health
