I did a whole playthrough of this game and had some issues, but GOG was able to make some improvements. Here's what's been fixed 1. Crashes at Game Over screen in software mode are gone. 2. Diagonal movment now works on D-pads. 3. Some of the crashes after skipping certain cutscenes in Hardware mode. Here's what's still a problem 1. Lack of framebuffer effects ( this will not get fixed by GOG dsince this port was always like that, so it's not classified as a bug, may have to rely on fan stuff). 2. Lower-quality sound effects compared to PSX versio inherited by the original version of this port. This may or may not get resolved, GOG support has yet to exclude this as a future fix. 3. Ninja suit and Stleath camo effect causes slowdown in Hardware mode. 4. FMV's subtitles won't display ( this won't be fixed by GOG for same reason as missing framebuffer effects) If you're fine with playing in software mode, where you're limited to a 640x480 internal resolution, this port is a nice of playing the game without need of an emulator. Not the definitive means, but it earns points for those who value convenience. Without 3rd party fixes, this version is pretty good.

With the fan patch, this is probably the best way to play the game on PC. I own the original DVD of MGS2 and tried it on PCSX2 and I prefer simply using the patched version of this official PC port. It's great. DS4 and Xbox controller support, better graphical effects and customization, etc. It's a much better time than using the barebones vanilla version on its own.
