It's not perfect, there's issues, but this is still the overall best topdown RPG since Baldur's Gate 2. If you know those old games, you'll most likely love this. If you felt Tyranny was to on-rails, somewhat shallow and easy combat, if you felt Pillars of Eternity was to vanilla cookie-cutter wherein I can't even recall what the antagonist or bad guy was in that game, then this is for you. If you're entirely new to these types of games, this can be a very daunting game for you. There's nothing wrong to change the extremely indepth customization for difficulty if you're new to these games. I myself love reloading like 8+ times on difficult fights, I see them as a puzzle need solving with different spells and potions, but I also get that a lot of modern players won't want that. TLDR: If you're oldschool, this is the best game on the market for that. If you're new, don't be afraid of changing difficulties to learn, these games are complex and that's their charm.
TLDR: Darkest Dungeon meets Moba-esque micro fights, with the story being more a LOTR than a typical RPG. I honestly was really underwhelmed the first 20 mins, some stock-standard lore you give jack shit about, some classic "I AM CHOSEN MAGIC ONE" narration and I was really ready to book it. Then I did some combat, hey this is pretty nice. Then a hard encounter (play on HARD) and it totally smashed me, only killed 13%. Then I tried again. 67%. Again. 93%. Again, and I cleared it easy as hell. Now I've only played two hours, but those two hours have been great. I got this for free at New Years and I'll honestly probably buy a copy for a friend just to support them for the fun I've received so far.
On a sale or not, it's a fun and good experience and honestly appealed to me more than XCOM2 did. If you enjoy these types of games it's worth yer time. If you're not sure and come from the newer XCOM reboots then buy it on a sale, since this harkens back to the old ones.
