Deserts of Kharak is a good prequel, that adds interesting things to the lore, and is a fun take on Homeworld mechanics on a more 2-dimensional plane. The full price is a bit much for what it is, but it's a good strategy game. And importantly, playing it on GoG means you do not have to install EpicGames malware, like is required for the Steam version.
