There are several landmark sandbox titles that throw you into a lush, fun world with countless things to do. Here the word "sandbox" just comes off like a euphemism for the developers throwing up their arms in exasperation going "here, you go figure out how to have fun with this, because we sure as hell couldn't". I can't judge a game based on what a developer wanted to do, I can only judge it on what they did. Good ideas don't matter if you don't bring them to fruition. Theoretically there is some depth here but everything about the gameplay, the UI and most blatantly the design is just boring and tedious to me. There's apparently a moddable alternative version to this that's more fun, but I won't bother with it. I'm not big on the whole "let the modding community make our game interesting for us" way of game development. It's already very questionable everytime Bethesda does it, and their games are much more polished and interesting vanilla.
