Pillars of Eternity 2 is arguably Obsidian's best RPG. It's my favorite party based RPG for sure, only recently challenged by Pathfinder:Wrath of the Righteous. Baldur's Gate 3 is great, but something about the non-D&D system in PoEt2 is just so much more impressive to me. It's a shame this game never got the fame and reception it deserved. Hopefully people who got into the CRPG realm from BG3 find PoEt2 though and love it.

If you can stand the math crunch, this is a great CRPG. The Pathfinder 1 version that is in Wrath of the Righteous is evolved from D&D 3.5e, which can be a plus or minus depending the audience, but the game itself is great. Owlcat has been good about patching it up, even years later, and now all of the DLC is finally out. Balance is a little suspect, as a lot of stats stack when they shouldn't, and unarmored mages basically end up with the highest AC without mods, which aggravates me on a personal level, but regular fighters can still get respectable defense stats. Don't feel the need to play your first game (especially if you never played Kingmaker or any tabletop Pathfinder) on Core difficulty or worse. There are plenty of granular options on difficulty settings to tailor the game to your liking, and Toybox mod is always there to pick up the slack. This is a long game, easily 150-200 hours, if you play the full Crusade yourself and don't auto-skip. Once again, a plus or minus depending on the player. You can find plenty of guides online with suggestions for 1 level dips in like 5 different classes... don't feel you need to do those sort of builds either, unless you're playing on Unfair, which shouldn't be your first run anyway. In short, a great, if long, CRPG. With a somewhat stereotypical epic campaign (literally) with gods and demons, in a non D&D universe with another established tabletop RPG system.
