Some of the best writing I've seen in a game. I don't know if VNRPG makes sense as a genre, but that's what it is, and it does it excellently. Don't be fooled by some discussions online, the meat of the story is the protagonist's broken life, and how starts piecing himself back together, or fails to do so. The detective story is a framework for the character's story, and the politics similarly serve as vehicles for his growth or further degeneration.
