Here's rarity. An actually fun metroidvania game! An extremely well balanced game that challenges you but also does not delve into cheapness. The art style is wonderful with cartoony, cute characters but also exuding a palpable atmosphere of mystery, desolation and real mystery. The music is beautiful and well fitting to the atmosphere. It is almost subliminal the way that adds to the world and context of where you are. There is a bit of a dark souls atmosphere, perhaps not as difficult but just as rewarding. One of the best modern 2D games I've played in decades.
A fairly playable twin stick shooter game which does suffer from a couple of bad game mechanic decisions. The game is broken up into seasons. Each season is divided into 4 episodes. The problem here is that your health does not regenerate at the beginning of each episode and any power ups you obtain get dumped at the end of the season, only to start with your basic ship again. The game can be quite difficult at times and the only checkpoints are at the end of each chapter. But the biggest slap in the face is that the game story is not finished. You unceremoniously finished season four only to find there it no more game. This could have been a great little game, but due to some unfortunate decisions, this game is barely above mediocre.
This is absolutely the best game I've ever played. No, I'm serious. I've played over 200 hours and I'm addicted to it. Amazing visuals, story, characters, the whole lot! This game broke my Dark Souls addiction, which is no small feat. Now I have to wait for a game to break my Witcher 3 addiction. It's going to be a while.
You fly a ship that transform into a robot and you blow up enemy battle cruisers. That got me sold. The concept may be simple but the game is not. It can get fiendishly difficult at times and although your strike suit gives you an edge, you never feel like you're in god mode. In fact, if you don't watch yourself, you'll end up in little chunks. A good game which could have used a bit more variety but as a budget game, this is a must. Just make sure you play it with a mouse and keyboard, playing it on my Xbox controller is very, very clunky.
