Risen

Underwhelming and flawed

I really wanted to enjoy this game, I found it beautiful and it was the first game of its type I had played in a long time. But I found the best part to be running around the town talking to everyone and solving the quests, whenever I ventured out into the world I was horribly bored. The combat especially is horrendous. You can take advantage of it and defeat monsters you shouldn't but mostly get killed by critters because you can't be arsed. There are good games out there - Gothic II, etc. This isn't one of them.

Among the Sleep - Enhanced Edition

Like my good friends at GOG write,

this game is far too short, far too short because it is so good and far too short for such a price. It was a wonderful little game which was very interesting at times. I enjoyed the crawling and hugging function, very innovative and cute. The perspective was certainly interesting. I found myself carefrully crawling through the game, afraid of the monster, up until it showed up. After that I mostly powered through the levels and it only got me scared once or twice, but the enviroments are eerie and haunting. They're very creative and beautiful to discover. I will probably replay it once or twice. The ending was great, great but sad. Very sad, and unfortunately a reality for many.

A Story About My Uncle

This childish sinner recommends it

I thought this came was wonderful. The atmosphere caught from the first step you take into your uncle's cabin, passing the windows over-looking a winter landscape at night, the beautiful, noticable Swedish accents of the narrator and voice-artists, and how it quickly thrusts you into another world. It takes the simple and makes it fantastical. The story is only there to allow you to progress to something, but the time you spend in the silence, far above or within these beautiful landscapes makes you think about it, and I became surprisingly emotionally invested - and felt sort of snubbed by the ending, leaving me with a pleased, bitter-sweet feeling. Then I played it again, trying out different paths, finding new and unintended paths, trying to get the time challenges, jump challenges and so on. I recommend buying it on a sale. The reviews here are mixed, but I enjoyed it. For exactly ten hours, and since then I have probably spent another two-three hours thinking about it and how much I enjoyed it. Also, the story is deeper than you think at first. Enough to make you a little sad. Good-bye!
