GWENT: The Witcher Card Game

The Worst CCG for Beginners

For beginners, it's going to be tough, painful, and unbearable. Because the online player base isn't very large anymore, the range of player skill levels is very narrow. As a result, you as a beginner and me as a beginner will end up playing 24/7 against those with vastly more experience and much better decks. And when I say "better decks," I mean truly meta decks that can completely destroy your pathetic starter deck in 2-5 turns. The ranking system doesn't work in this game. It doesn't matter how many hours you've played or what your win rate is; you will be FORCED to play against obviously stronger players, with cards that will only be available to you if you: spend money, play 24/7 and grind resources to craft them, or if you are incredibly lucky. Everyone praises the "good F2P" system, which is now useless to those who are already playing because they already have everything they need for their meta decks. For beginners, welcome to the grind, which doesn't really work because you'll be able to win maybe 2 out of 10 matches, and that's only if your opponent is at your skill level or you got lucky and a veteran decided to go easy on you. Otherwise, you won't earn any resources at all. VICTORY = RESOURCES, no VICTORY, no RESOURCES. It's that simple. The meta is like a monolith here. It exists, it will always exist, and it is unshakeable. In the meta: Nilfgaard and Monsters. Forget about the other decks and honestly, you should just forget about this game altogether. Or, you can download it, spend money - maybe you’ll get the meta cards, and you might be able to play on par with others.
