First off, this version of the port of the original PS1 classic works beautifully on modern machines. I've used NVIDIA gpus as well as an Intel integrated gpu on a laptop to play this game. The ONLY problem with the port of the PC version of MGS is the sound. The sound is of lower quality.. some of the music and ambience is in the wrong places (e.g. boss fights use the alert soundtrack song instead of the actual boss fight music that was in the original PS1 version) and some of the dialogue is missing some effects such as 3d sound rendering so it sounds more like a recording and no echo effects. Also, a couple of the graphical effects in cutscenes are missing such as when fox die triggers and other effects in cutscenes. IMO, the increased resolution is much nicer. It's what I would imagine a native N64 port or a dreamcast port to look like. Very nice.. some prefer the original, I can clearly see that there are less jaggies, improved colors and lighting, and also slightly less texture warping. All in all, this is my favorite version to play. No need for mods, this works beautifully, although my only gripe is the audio quality... the PS1 version is KING in that aspect. If there was an audio mod, this would be my absolute favorite version. Unfortunately also some of the ambiance tracks are mixed up. I love the CARGO ELEVATOR ambience but in the PC version it's just the communication towers ambience. Untrained ears won't be able to tell the difference or care but I sure do! The difference is the roaring sounds from a blizzard within a tower as opposed to deep underground tunnel sounds. All in all, I'm so glad this version exists. I NEVER play the PS1 version anymore as it's color palette, lighting, and jaggies make it a slightly inferior experience to me. But that's only coming from a die hard Metal Gear Solid fan. This game changed my adolescent life back in 2000 when I finally recieved my first copy of the game. I wish I had more words to write with!
