Dex

An Deus-Ex Inspired RPG Platformer

Despite the game being inspired by Deus Ex, it has a really solid story. You play as Dex, a blue-haired female who for unknown reason became a target of The Corporation (how original) and the famous hacker known as Raycast helps you escape and join with a group of hackers who are against the corporation you ran away (Seriously, give a name so others won't be confused next time). Little did you know that there's more than just good hackers vs evil corporations, as in this game, no one is actually a villan, just people with their own point of ideology and thinking. The game is very short when you follow the main story, but the side quests are more fun to do and have multiple ways to end. In fact both main and side quests have consenquenes on your actions which you will not expect. It also rewards you for doing things that the game hadn't mentioned, because you found it on your own. The graphics is pretty strong in this one, the character sprites are very detailed and pleasing to look, but suffers from meh animation in most parts (Such as the dog's running animation, it just bothers me) and there is one moment where they just straight up went lazy and didn't make new sprites in near-end game. The gameplay is pretty good, you have multiple ways to deal with the enemy and the hacking part is much more fun to do than in Deus Ex series, while being an essential part to your survival. The melee fight sometimes sucks though, as you may have to guess when, the enemy will start attacking you faster before you even block it sometimes. The soundtrack is great and memorable, I still have the main theme stuck in my head along with Highrise one. But the sound effects are lacking, such as when the enemy gets hit, knocked out or die. Even our heroine suffers from that problem as well. There are bugs for sure, but so far i haven't ran into anything major, cept the fact that the Wireless Xbox One Controller's D-Pad does not work! Overall, the game is solid despite some problems.

Unreal 2: The Awakening Special Edition

A game that should be a spinoff series

Unreal 2 is a controversial game. Almost all of reasons why is because it has nothing to do with the previous game at all, which I agree. But when I've completed the game, I was and still kept interested in the universe this game created. It has a great potential but Epic Games executed it poorly and It has to do with the name of the game. When you see Unreal in title, you think of a game where you explore and survive one planet while watching the beautiful world of it. This one is pretty much different, it's basically doing objectives in each planet with less of exploration going on and more action. Don't get me wrong, the game is great, but it just doesn't feel like a sequel to Unreal game. If the game was treated as a spinoff to Unreal series, like Unreal Tournament that is concentrated on multiplayer game then it'd work as an introduction to the world of it, as it mentions the UT in some moments, escpecially, when you can fight against the soldiers made by the same host that game, Liandri Corp. Some planets have their own unique setting, the 1st one is a living one consisting of organs (gross but awesome) and my favourite, NC962VIII, which has the atmosphere of H.R Giger universe mixed with cyberpunk on it. I ain't gonna say much about the game other than the fact that it is a rather great game, but it should've been and must be treated as a spinoff to it. If Epic Games gave a different name that is related to Unreal universe, but the Unreal game itself and make a game series of it. I'd be bloody interested. But now it is most likely abandoned and it's a shame.

Quake II

The 2nd coming of Quake times 4

Quake 2 was my 1st game to introduce not only the Quake series, but also the Arena FPS genre. But does it still holds up today? This review will be divided for each additional content as well. Quake 2 Quake 2 offers a modified id Tech 2 engine which Quake 1 uses, allowing you to have new features in to give an easier time for new players to set up, as well as introduce the option to go back to the previous sections to the game, giving a small Metroid-like feeling. The gameplay is almost the same, go around and kill while doing objectives which your base sends. This time you have 10 guns to play with instead of 8 and the powerups don't use immediately on pick up, but rather on use, which somewhat makes the game easier. The graphics received some improvements, the software mode no longer requires DOS and the game makes a good use of OpenGL/3dfx. The animation is no longer choppy which Quake 1 has by default, while FX are very simple and didn't eat that much of the performance on older PCs. There is a problem though, on OpenGL the game is simply too dark, this is something which fits to Quake 1 rather than a sci-fi action game. The music IS present in this version, but it does not loop by default, however a fix exists for that. The Reckoning Despite having new levels and new weapons, most of the new enemies are just reskins with bigger HP and uses new weapons. Not bad, but it needs something better. Ground Zero The HARDEST mission pack ever made. Not only introduces new powerups while replacing some of them, it also introduces new weapons, new enemies and a remaded AI. Which means older enemies are more smarter and deadlier than before. The newer ones won't give you any mercy. This is reserved only for pros. Netpack: Extremities It contains a lot of popular mods and a bot configurator. It's nice to see it here Also worth mentioning, this version uses a fully customizeable launcher for you to play with. Against Steam verison, this one is just better.

Robin Hood: The Legend of Sherwood

Greatest Robin Hood game ever made

Back when I was a kid, I was a huge fan of Robin Hood thanks to the amazing movie called Adventures of Robin Hood starring Errol Flynn. As the time passes i've discovered this gem in a form of demo, it made me get the full version of it immediately in a form of CD. While the gameplay looks similar to the Commando, it actually has new features of it's own such as the hub level, which you can command your troops to train in combat,harvest/create items that will be useful in later games or perform optional missions such as robbing the caravan, saving someone or deal with Prince John's scouts who went off to find your hideout. Another new feature has been added to the combat itself, this time you have to perform a mouse gesture to perform any kind of attacks for example. If you draw a circle, the character will spin around knocking anyone near him, useful when you get surrounded. Also in a hideout you can send your troops to help your allies in invasion or do it by yourself, which occurs in later missions. I have nothing to say about the music, it is just great and memorable. Also bonus points for making the Robin Hood look similar to Errol Flynn while he played as him in my childhood movie.

Unreal Gold

Will you survive and escape or just die?

Unreal is the very 1st game which at it's time featured an advanced engine which to this day is still used and contains more features than their arch rival studio iD Software. However the game itself has a big charm to it despite being a tech demo in a form of a game. Story ---------- You play as a Prisoner #849 with unknown reason to be in jail who survived the crash landing on planet Na Pali. The entire crew along with other of your in-mates are dead, while those who are still alive got slaughtered by an unknown alien species. The only thing you can do is fight for a survival and find any means to escape from this place. Graphics ------------- Now this is the game's main strongest point, unlike other FPS games in this year it was something that is well....unreal (No pun intended) and even to this day it still holds up very well. What if i told you, that you could also have the same kind of graphics, even on Software Mode? That's just shockingly awesome and the world that has been built is just plain beautiful. Gameplay ----------------- Unreal plays exactly the same as other FPS games. You move, look around, shoot and flip some switches for progress. But this one has it's own unique gameplay. Cept for these, all your weapons have alt-fire which no other games had but wait, that's not all. You can also pull off a dodge move b which our protagonist makes a very small but quick jump into the direction you have pressed twice. Some enemies are smarter than you think, Skaarj for example can also dodge your fires and may even fake their own death to keep your guard down. That's just awesome. Music ---------- The music has been composed by Alexander Brandon and let me tell you. Not only they sound so damn great, but it contributes to the atmosphere and charm to this game. That's all I have to say. Overall, give this gem a go no matter what along with some unofficial patches and make sure to run on lower resolution, as the HUD does not scale to the resolution.
