When HR first came out, there were some pretty bad bugs. They were fixed a few weeks later. The DC version is based on that original source code, not the patched version and has those bugs once again. One of them is people that are knocked out with tranq darts often dying if you shoot them without them noticing. Another is one where an early quest's marker is in the middle of the sky and, even if you go to the right place for the quest, you can't complete it. And if you use cheats to go into the sky where the marker is, you still can't complete it because the required NPC isn't there in the sky. Finding those two bugs was when I stopped playing HR DC.
So, a lot has been said about the quality of the story and, for the most part, I agree, though the endings seem like the writers were just trying to be dicks to the player just for the sake of being dicks, especially the added game ending. Another thing about the writing that bothered me is you can't say the most obvious reason for not wanting to side with NUSA: that it seemed pretty clear they would just zero you once you outlived your usefulness. The fact that this ISN'T what happens if you side with them is almost laughable in light of the story. Also, the DLC itself doesn't feel very well integrated into the main game. No one in the main game seems to be updated to address anything that happens in Dogtown. This DLC adds some new ideas, like a braindance that you can watch whenever you want, but there's only one of them and it doesn't let you go into edit mode so you can look around it. It feels like a major waste.
I've gotta agree with those that say this is a good game with serious issues. One major one is lack of balance. It's almost as if this game wasn't play tested. I've been playing for about 6 hours and am still level 2, which wouldn't be so bad except I'm constantly being pushed into places with much more higher level enemies. And even when I can kill them, they've done so much permanent stat damage that my characters are useless. That doesn't mention the text bugs, such as color codes being displayed in some descriptions or custom formations being called "<Null>". Oh, and then there's the demilich that attacks you and kills you (because you have almost no chance to survive, especially at level 2) because you stayed at a camp site that was already set up. And no, there's no "go level up and come back" because these are time sensitive quests. If you try to do something else instead, the quest will fail.
The developers of this game are currently working on a remake that's supposed to be released Q4 2015 and have released this version as freeware.
