I just want to start off by saying I have not yet had a GoG copy of this game but after months of reading about this version coming with built in LAA, no G4WL, etc, I am seriously tempted to switch over to GoG and give it a go. I first began playing Fo3 freshman year in high school back in 2010 and have been playing this game almost exclusively for over a decade now. If that doesn’t speak to how great this game can be if action-packed, post apocalyptic, immersion is up your alley! Having played Fallout New Vegas and 4 as well (love them both), nothing compares to Fallout 3 for me. For a true “lone wander” feeling, no other game has ever done it the way the Fo3 atmosphere does it. a scripted. Between the Ambient music and the surreal cinematics of the VATS, it truly feels like your watching a movie. *Side note: you can easily drag and drop mp3 files (correctly renamed and numbered) into your data>music>sub folder music category list, to add as much music to the game as you want, I’ve added dozens of soundtracks to my game (I am Legend, the Road, book of Eli, just to give you some ideas). This is much more in depth to do in FNV and FO4. Anyway back on topic, after playing this game for around 7 years on Xbox 360, I switched to PC to pursue the world of modded Fo3, although the core of the game is the vanilla game, there are quality of life improvements you can implement like All companions Essential (they won’t die permanently), Rh_iron sights (aim down the sights), etc. I personally mostly love just retexturing the game with as much 4k retextures as I can find on Nexus’s website and then so on (2k). This game with texture overhaul mods really starts to look timeless. What I mean is that instead of looking like an old game, it starts to really make the game look like a 50’s comic book...It’s really wild. All in all if your still reading this review then your already overthinking it, just buy the game! It’s like $8 at the time of me writing this for the GoTY.
