First off, you have to know that System Shock 2's graphics are very dated. I thought it looked pretty bad before and it's still just as bad now. While there are mods to update the graphics a bit, I'll assume you're playing this game off the bat without modding anything. Yet, System Shock 2 makes up for the graphics and blows everything else out of the water with it's story, gameplay and ambiance. Forget pop out of nowhere scares like you got from Deadspace. In SS2, the real horror is the unknown. It's hearing the groans of former shipmates hunting you down in the corridors. The bloodied remains and left behind messages that tell the story of how the ship was slowly unraveling apart. SS2's real horror is how all these elements come together in a twisted whole and how it has more than a few twists to pull. As a game that was the spiritual ancestor of Bioshock, it is a must play, given the more detailed RPG elements that is has compared to it's successors. Play it and relive the horror that was the Von Braun and shiver in the insanity of SHODAN that makes GLaDOS look like a cheerful A Grade student.
