I'm finding this old game a lot of fun. The first thing I did was see if there was a way to set higher screen resolutions and I found a package of Noseferatu.exe files on the internet that allow you to play the in many different screen resolutions and aspect ratio's. You just copy the exe file for the resolution size you want and paste it into the main game directory and click overwite. The game is just good old fashioned horror fun. It's like starring in your own old vampire horror movie. You wander around, collect weeapons, like a sword, guns, stakes etc., even the cross acrts as a weapon that scares away vampires. The main goal is to find your family members and bring them to safety. There's monsters and vampires that spawn, some are easy to kill and others can be quite difficult. Where items are located is random and their are other random factors to the game that add some replayability. Overall I am very much enjoying this game and it was worth every penny.
There's nothing I can say that has not already been said about this game and the other X-Wing/Tie Fighter games. They are absolute classics that will never die. These games still have an active community of players and modders even today. If you dont already own it and you are a Star Wars fan or a fan of space shooters, then do yourself a favor and get it now.
If you like old school boomer shooter style, 2.5D FPS games than you will really enjoy Witchaven. It has most things you would want in an old school FPS game from the mid 90's, the maps are fun to explore despite the game being graphically challenged, and killing monsters can be very challenging on higher difficulty levels. You get the both the orginial version of the game and the Enhanced Edition, both versions run in DOSBOX. What is great about the enhanced edition is you have a settings program that you run that allows you to tweak the graphics to your liking by selecting different graphics API's as well as scaling options. There's a bunch of different options to choose from, each one changes or improves the look of the game in slightly different ways. I for one, like these kind of options to mess with, I find it fun to play for a while at different settings.
I'm really enjoying this game. I never heard of this developer before but they seem to have a good following of fans of thier games. It's a Diablo style game with very unique mechanics, the game is quite unique for this genre. Like having to keep saving the people of different towns. You have to earn reputation by completing quests and you can lose reputation if a quest fails even if you didn't except the quest. Gaining reputiation with Din is one of the main goals of the game. It is a living world with things happening around you and regardless of you which is fascinating. One top review mentions the art design of the game being cheap but I think the game looks fine, in fact, I like the way the game looks visually, while the graphics may be "cheap", it is tastefully done. Well worth the few dollars I paid for it and I will be checking out this developer's other games.
I first bought this game on Steam and after installing it, I hit the play button and the game won't start. I went back and read the system requirements on the Steam page for the game and noticed it said it's compatible up to Windows 7. Later I noticed the game here on GOG and saw the system requirements says it is Windows 10 compatible, even WIndows 11 compatible. When I saw this I thought maybe GOG worked their magic and made it working on new OS's so I decided to buy it again here on GOG. I installed the game, clicked the play button and nothing happens, game won't start, just like the Steam version. I asked around and some say it does work for them on Win10 and others say it won't. I don't know why that is, I tried searching the issue on Google and found nothing helpful, asked for help on forums, no helpful answers. It makes me really sad, I really love combat flight simulation and I've played every one that's come out since CFS3 back in 2002, this game being the only exception. I'm so dissapointed.s
I don't get into 2D games very often but this game is so interesting, well done and very unique. The old negative reviews no longer apply, I've not run into any of those issues, seems everything that was complained about has been fixed. I find it funny that I have a modern gaming pc with a massive cpu and gpu and I'm getting addicted to playing games like this that can run on my dual core laptop with integrated graphics :)
