RimWorld

Rimworld good. Mod support bad.

Great game. Runs amazing. My go-to colony simulator. Just wish mod support was present on the level Steam Workshop has because modding the game by itself is overly difficult even with programs like RimPy and RimSort and there are some great QoL improvements out there.

Decent shooter for GOG

GOG doesnt have a lot of first person shooters, so this addition to its archives is an outstanding one. Game itself borders on horror, but its not so oppressive it leaves you hesitant to explore the open world. More of a survival shooter, it's far closer to fallout than wolfenstein. No wokeness so far. Gameplay is visually appealing and once you bind them to your preferred keys, controls are no nonsense. Only real complaints are the voice acting and scavenging system. -English-speaking characters have have decent American/British/Scottish accents but with strange mannerisms. I understand that the game is Ukrainian and the voice actors are probably not native speakers, but it's a tell that's hard to ignore. Seems a bit underdone and dialogue can be verbose at times, but there is a skip option. -For scavenging, ragdoll physics sometimes knock lootables behind desks and shelving that can prevent them from being retreived. Bad luck when you happen to be short on ammo. Great game overall, but with a little bit of work it'll earn that 5th star from me.

Empires: Dawn of the Modern World

OMG OMG OMG!!!!

Okay so no joke... I had been looking for this game forever. Lots of good memories with this one. Played it A LOT when I was a senior in high school back in 2004. Somewhere along the way I lost the CDs/DVDs. I was never able to find another copy because the company went under. I am SO happy that GOG managed to get the rights to distribute this. Each game faction is different while being well balanced, which was a novel thing for the time. The only other "Triple A" title that did this was Warcraft 3, less than 6 months beforehand. There is no faction I don't enjoy playing. I'd almost compare it to Rise of Nations, however that game is a little more detailed while this ends up being a bit more streamlined. Graphics and campaign stories may be a little dated, but it still handles well after all these years. 80,000 population cap was a huge thing when this first came out, and still is. I absolutely hate population caps. Honestly one of the best RTS's I've ever played. From a nostalgia perspective, it's second only to Warcraft 2. If you're an older RTS fan I do not believe you will be disappointed.
