It is amazing how the graphic sucks, and at the time I thought it was almost acceptable. It is not just about the technology, the design choices are unbelievable cheesy and ugly. The game is speedy, but that's it. Nothing more stands out. And those polygons, FFS, they should have skipped 5 years of GPU developing before changing from 2.5D to full 3D.
Amazing game, new skills and features on every round - also news enemies and challenges on every round - the learning curve never ends until you finish the game. Beautiful graphics, fun and clever gameplay, solid story, great scenery, awesome soundtrack. Huge replay value, I finished it at least 10 times. Just can't find anything bad about this game. Buy it. Be happy!
If you are giving ONE STAR because you can't use your precious Xbox joystick, get out of the building. This is a PC domain and we use keyboards here. Console peasants are not welcome. Your controller is not even better, you would be obliterated by the precision of single keys for every move. Furthermore pissing all over this outstanding, history changer, game because of one technical aspect, means a extreme lack of respect, and you should not be allowed to review stuff. This is not one, but three MK and it dismisses further comments. For 3 bucks you have a childhood moral debt to pay.
First of all you gotta understand this is 1995. This simple fact makes the quality of the game unbelievable. Take a look around other titles of that year and you will get it. This is probably the first PC game with real actors (that were not single framed like Mortal Kombat), and it spanned over 7 CDs at the time because the videos were too large. The script is 5 times larger than a regular movie because of the possibilities. They took hours in a blue screen studio recording all the scenes and the result is quite amazing, the scenery looks real and well integrated with props and characters, although it uses only 256 colours. Nonetheless it has a beautiful art direction, an interesting story, and shocking violent sequences, sometimes really graphic (one could disable that feature with blurry overlays, but the torture is still there) and there is even a controversy rape scene that lead the game away from several stores. But what I like most is the atmosphere, created specially with the outstanding music/sound fx and the small doses of madness that the game gradually inserts in the story, building tension from a very calm and peaceful environment to disturbing moments of terror. There is mystery, there is magic, secret passages, clever puzzles, jokes and fear. If you are not a moronic kid looking for 60 fps 4K shootings, buy this game, you won't regret it.
I really dislike the Borderlands graphics. Too much black strokes around everything. In a 12-years-post-Crysis-world we can't endure this kind of landscapes anymore.
Yeah, the game is pretty good most of the time. As a kid I remember loving it like hell, but playing today I finished it in one seat, appealing to the walkthrough for one or another puzzle because the last third of the game its just trial and error, over and over and over. There are no clues, tips, deep thinking or whatever, you just keep testing options until you hit the right one. So shame on you Lucas Arts. The interface and gameplay are overly simplistic, but well its 1995 so I can deal with it. No replay value tho, unless you really like the art direction and the landscape. Anyway the graphics were amazing and now they are better. Also I can't stress enough how the soundtrack and the overall atmosphere is cool. It's a must play for its historical value, but as a new product it would be weak. Buy on sale and have fun.
You can't consider yourself a decent person if you have never played Diablo I. Its not just about the game, but the manual, the soundtrack, the atmosphere, the characters, the skills, the magic, everything is a unique piece of art. I remember wanting to pee out of excitement when I bought the big box in my local supermarket, before getting home. Bear in mind this was 1996. This level of care and neatness is hard to find nowadays, even with all the tech around. BUY IT.
