Just a good time all around. Get your Bro on and liberate some places what are different than you.
I'll start by saying that like most I love the art style and narrative. Oh and the soundtrack is pretty cool too. The gameplay is where, for me, this game falls apart. This game gives you so much choice in how to play it, so many combinations of abilities which sounds great until it throws a few enemies at you that pretty much require specific ones. The dog cunts for example, if you don't have the dash move you're basically done for, they chase you around all over the shop and you can't outrun them. The photobastards are annoying too, they just slap a big picture of you in front of the screen so you can't see anything for a bit and now something has stopped me from being able to see during the "Turn" thing. There's just nothing but progressive hindrances in the gameplay and it's not fun. I have never known a game to try so hard to prevent me from having fun while playing it. So in short, I want to like this game but it's just annoying after a while. There are so many things I like about it which makes it thrice as annoying than a regular bad game. If you like strategy games disguised as a hack'n'slash then this is for you.
There's very little I can say that isn't in all the other reviews so I'm mostly just adding my 5 stars to the rating. I adore this game and always have done. I owned it on the 360 and had the O.G. Butcher Bay on the O.G. Xbox and it's just great. They mix stealth, hand-to-hand combat and FPS elements flawlessly. There's a sense of adventure game and even RPG with the way you explore and interact with the people at Butcher Bay. Dark Athena is a bit more straight forward action with some decent stealth elements, the story is pretty cool and the voice acting and animations are all improved. The environments are a little more diverse than the first game but at the same time there's less to do in them. It's still a solid game but Escape From Butcher Bay is the reason to buy this. Do yourself a favour yeah ;)
Right, well now that they've finally patched the game it works flawlessly, for me at least. Yay and such. BUT, this now leaves the problems the O.G. edition had. I can't be bothered to play through this twice (that's how not-different this version is for PCs) so this isn't really a review of the game. I just got really fucked off with the fact the D-Pad is still unable to navigate the menus and now I'm rage-typing. I know, I know, it doesn't seem like such a big deal and it isn't most of the time but I'm really on edge (goddamn those amphetamines!) so yeah, buy this game to support the developers because I want a third one. If you don't I will come to your house and urinate in your fridge. Think about that before you say "Nah" to this game.
