I had voted to have this on GoG quite a few years ago, and I am so happy it finally arrived! This is hands down my favourite RTS is all time, just before Dune 2k. This is not like most RTS, however. There is much more focus on management itself. And the colony building is rather unique. So do not go into it expecting large battles. One complaint that I hope they sort is the resolution, like had been mentioned. There are fixes already available. So I hope those get implemented.
For years I have been looking for a replacement of sorts for the Outpost series (Outpost 2 in particular). It had a very niche premise, but I spent many hours playing it. I think that Aven Colony brilliantly fits that niche. I purchased this in a summer sale packet, along with Colonizing Mars and Stellaris. Of the three, I much preferred Aven Colony. It is not terribly difficult, but I find that I enjoy that more. It is quite zen, spending much of your time optimising your colony, making incremental upgrades. I have not played the campaign yet, as I prefer to just hop straight into a game like this. Playing on challenge mode I have spend the last couple days building up a massive colony. It has been the most fun I have had in a game in a long time! The great visuals and soundtrack, along with the colonist and creature ambience, really add to the experience.
