In fact, it may be one of the best games ever made. Play the collectors edition; enjoy the music way ahead of its time, enjoy the glory of serving the emperor, enjoy the voice acting by Allo Allo Actor Guy Siner. Above else, become frustrated about the game because it can be pretty damn hard. For the greater glory of the empire, DESTROY EVERYTHING.
This is not the "oh my god everything is going to hell" Battlezone. This is the streamlined experience but it still a very good one. It is also the one I recommend people to try out first if they never tried a Battlezone game. It eases you into the experience of commanding and base-building at the same time. The story is also very interesting, even if it diverts a bit from the Bio Metal War that gave the original one such a charm. New graphical settings are pretty damn good and it is not just nostalgia-tinted googles talking on that account. For the asking price, they could have done a lot worse but instead gave us some good value for our money. Sure, some parts of the game are dated but it is not a whole new game; it is an improvement of an old one. As an improvement, it is a very good one.
It is not a complicated RTS. Mostly you get away with just spamming units but its fun either way, esp with the squad lingo and the sheer stupidness of a lot of green plastic soldiers having a war. Highly recommended either way, esp for this pretty awesome price.
This game is one of the best tactical shooters out there; simply because you are encouraged not to be lethal. You are a police officer in a live-saving organisation; that means you only take a lethal shot if you have no other choice. At the same time, the game really works hard on wanting you to pull that trigger. Arresting a serial murderer who tortures young victims and a Cult with a charismatic leader - and a lot of creepy messages on the walls - are amongst the best examples. You really get a feel for the police work alongside a healthy dose of frustration. This game makes you respect Force - both when you use it and when it is used against you - and it is one of the truly greats. Thanks Gog.com!
Battlezone is a classic. It had a great story, it has a good atmosphere, its command system is decent and the AI downright horrible, esp your own. But none of that matters. This remaster is done in the spirit of the original and while it can be argued that the same could be done in the freeware version, this offers high definition models and easy mod support (Steam Workshop capable on Steam in fact!) with just a few clicks of a button. This and Homeworld Remastered are in my humble opinion the best examples of games who earned that very title. In a few hours of playing, you will forget Battlezone never looked this good before because with your nostalgia googles, it always did. And you will have just as much fun.
Don´t get me wrong. I like this game and I have never tried any of Telltales before. The story is pretty good and I sincerely look forward to following how it all turns out. However, I have yet to find any parts where your choices clearly matter. No matter what you do, it seems some people cannot be saved or some people cannot be killed. That is not how a "choose-your-path" game should work and makes a replay simply repetitive. Sure, actors (and they are good) will respond accordingly to what you say but you cannot alter the flow nor the outcomes.
First of all. If you have never touched a X-Wing Title, this is not where you should start. Go get X-Wing Alliance. XvT is designed to be a Multiplayer title, yet has no support for multiplayer aside from Hamachi. Until a Lobby system is implemented, the Game is a Single Player experience. The Single Player Experience is however pretty damn good with a bunch of stand-alone missions and two Campaigns including Super Star Destroyers, B-Wings, Z-95s and TIEs. Not my choice of recommendation for first X-Wing game but if you want more after X-Wing Alliance, this is where you should go.
Compatibility seems to be pretty good. Settings and music and voice overs work nicely. Multiplayer seems however to be DOA and I had prayed and hoped they would wait with X-Wing Alliance until such a time that they could release it with GoG Galaxy with full Multiplayer support like what was done with Alien vs Predator. The game itself is awesome. If you got a flight stick - grab it. Now.
