Fahrenheit (Indigo Prophecy)

Utterly disappointing...

I bought this game because I remember to have played the demo years ago on the original Xbox and the intro was very intriguing; a murder case that happened under some very mysterious circumstances where the murderer seemed to have been acting under some mystical influence. The demo ended where you escape the crime scene, so it leaves a bunch of unanswered questions. The game had some really cool and somewhat realistic animations (back in the day I mean) and the graphics reminded me of GTA: San Andreas. I wanted to know more about this story and see how it would unfold, but sadly, the best part of this game was that introduction scene. The story starts to get confusing and silly when the writers decide to add ancient Mayan paganism with a very convoluted motivation and funny names for the different organizations (they use colors for names, seriously...). I'm not sure if the story is supposed to be an allegory for the modern world or if it's just pure nonsense. On top of that, the gameplay is plagued with QTE's that ruin every action sequence. I mean, I can't really enjoy the action when I have to focus on what keys I should press in a rapid order. The game does have a killer soundtrack. This is probably the best thing this game has to offer, imho. With all that said, I think the game had some serious potential, but it feels as if the developers got lazy and just wanted to finish the game as soon as possible, thus making it a very forgettable experience.

Syberia 3: The Complete Journey

Beautiful and frustrating

Good game. Would've been a great game if it wasn't so buggy. The controls leaves much to be desired. The graphics are okay, but the animations are pretty bad, especially the facial ones (not on par with other 2017 games). The puzzles are weak and can be frustrating due to buggy controls (e.g. The mouse cursor will just disappear and clicking on anything becomes impossible. This happens way too often.) Voice acting was good for some characters, while others were pretty bad. One of the characters is supposed to be a young fella, but he sounds like a 50 year old dude with lung cancer. Overall, the story is interesting at most, but the gameplay could use some polishing. If you want to buy it to see Kate Walker's latest adventure and enjoy the somewhat pretty graphics and landscapes, wait for it to go on sale. I bought it when it was at around $12, but I've seen it go as low as $10.49; it might even go lower.
