I'm glad I bought this one. It was far better than I dared hope, and it wasn't so long as to overstay its welcome. The enemies were varied and their abilities were interesting. The exploration was satisfying, as were the puzzles, and the finding secret rooms was always cool. I definitely recommend it.
Having just finished it, I feel like I should give it a thumbs up on here. At first I wasn't so keen on replaying it, as it seemed... off. Low fps and potato quality resolution. But after installing Verok's community patch everything turned out real nice with 60 fps and 1080p resolution, along with a bunch of other enhancements, making this a very enjoyable experience throughout. It still has its fair share of janky combat, but honestly it is just so much fun to progress in the story and go from a struggling vagabond to a godlike vampire with so many options to kill everything around you it becomes almost effortless by the end. Still worth the ~14 hours it took me.
I have just finished the game, and ended up spending around 53½ hours completing all the floors at 100%. It's a fantastic game, that starts off really tough, but gets stupidly easy after a while, once you've worked out how to build your party, and outfit them with good items. The game would have been an even better experience, if it had been perhaps half as long, but it does tend to drag on a bit. The battles get fairly tedious, but thankfully you can set them to double speed, which is what I ended up doing for the vast majority of the game. Still, I don't regret playing it, and have no qualms recommending it. Do yourself a favor and play it on hard. It'll be brutal to begin with, but once you get a wee bit into it, you'll enjoy it all the more for having taken that decision. It'll force you to get creative with the battlefield, and learn all the ins and outs of your skills.
From the poor animations to the incredible overuse of terrible puns that wears on you quite fast, and the amateurish writing, this game is a massive disappointment. Disregarding the 6 year kickstarter and 2 successful campaigns on there to make the game, and just judging the game on its merits still has it coming up way short. I would be wary of all the 5 stars, and check out youtube yourself and judge. I, too, am a QFG fan, but the people who blindly give it 5 stars are quite possibly shills or haven't played the game at all I reckon. There aren't very many locations, and the combat is basic and bland. The writing, as mentioned is fairly amateurish, and even the cutscenes lag, though it's just a still picture where they're zoomed in and move the camera around. The developer also attacks and lies about customers who voice their dislike on steam. That should say a lot about the developer... This one is a hot mess, that should be avoided. Maybe if it was a 1 dollar bundle game, rather than a 6 year development cycle having spent hundreds of thousands of dollars, costing 30 dollars at launch.
It took me 80 hours (and 6 minutes) to finish this game, and what a ride it was. Everything about this game just oozes charm. It's quite challenging, but once you get a grip on things, you'll soon be set for a wild ride of RPG greatness. Really this game proves that not all kickstarters are bound to be scams or disappointments. They did it just right. From the graphics, to the combat, to the music, and just the pure size of it. Everything is well done. Honestly, if you enjoyed Might & Magic 6-8, you'll love the heck out of this game. I can't recommend it enough.
I've been having a blast playing through the campaign. Sadly though, the game doesn't feel complete, as the soundtrack is missing. Or, it's not missing per se, as the files are there, but you need to mount an ISO image and play it from there, as it doesn't work in the game due to licensing issues, which is just the worst... I found out after I bought the game, and it saddened me. The soundtrack was amazing. Nine Inch Nails rocked the hell out of it. You can however go on youtube and search for the soundtrack, and fire it up whenever you want to play. It works perfectly like that. Really sets the mood. The game really shines in multiplayer, obviously, but it only supports LAN games, so I haven't been able to play any of those. I'd still recommend the heck out of this game. If for nothing else, than the glorious hours you'll spend mowing down monsters as you blast through levels. It's scary how much of the map layouts I still remember, all these years later. I've deducted a star due to the missing soundtrack.
