SteamWorld Quest: Hand of Gilgamech

Decent deck builder

Held my attention for a few hours, which is more than most deck builders can say

STAR WARS™: Bounty Hunter™

Good PC optimization

Played this back in the day on GameCube, enjoying it much more on PC now. I miss platforming action games like this, and I miss LucasArts.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - Game of the Year Edition Deluxe

Not better than Skyrim

Played for the first time in 2024 to see what all the fuss is about and if this is, as many say, a better game than Skyrim. Spoiler alert, it's not. This is to Skyrim as Fallout 3 was to New Vegas. It's clunky, complicated, monotonous, and like most Bethesda games, tells an uninspired story with somewhat interesting smaller narratives throughout. The combat, environment, and music can't hold a candle to Skyrim, and it is significantly less user-friendly. The map does not zoom in or out. The menu system is very unintuitive. Oblivion Gates are a slog. All dungeons were randomly generated, so the layouts don't make sense and waste your time. The game's solution for increasing challenge is making the enemies spongier. The much-vaunted magic system that people disparage Skyrim for simplifying is convoluted and encourages breaking the game and all immersion (looking at you, spell creation). I understand that this is not an overly self-serious game, and it came out in 2006, and it was a huge accomplishment for its time, but unlike Skyrim, I do not think it holds up well. Those who say it does, or is a better game than Skyrim, are looking through rose-tinted glasses at a nearly 20 year old game they played at an impressionable age. This reviewer thought Skyrim looked stupid when it was announced, had no interest in playing it when it released, and did not play it until well after release having been won over by watching someone else play it. No rose-tinted glasses here, and Skyrim is easily the better game.
