Kingdoms and Castles

Great game but resource hog

Great casual fun, BUT not optimized for laptops, even with dedicated graphics cards. This it will play on my 2015 Macbook with AMD Radeon R9 M370X (as it should, though not on supported list) but it feels like it could damage my machine. Runs hot with fans on full blast.

Thimbleweed Park

Maniac Mansion-esque

As a huge fan of Maniac Mansion in grade-school, I enjoyed this game, and loved getting stuck on the cartoon-logic puzzles for several hours. I'd say there are 2 things missing from this title that I loved in Mansion. #1 would have loved to have multiple paths to solving puzzles, like the different character skillsets in Mansion. #2 Would have liked a chase scene or two with the potential of getting caught.

Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura

An Underrated Gem

So unique that you'll forgive it's rough edges. Arcanum is probably one of my favorite games of all time. I actually bought the original release and was disappointed when it was basically unplayable. The GOG patched version is what I hoped the original would be, an open-ended adventure where you can shoot a mage in the face, summon the undead or kill key NPCs and have the plot work around the fact. You can even talk your way through most encounters, even the final boss, without fighting, if your character is intelligent and charismatic enough. Tip: the technologist path is difficult, so save it for a second play through, or read some forums first. If you are like me and have to start with one, combine prowling with gunslinging to snipe effectively, even solo most the game.
