The Penumbra Collection

Amazing trilogy series

This game series is incredible, the only downside is that they never made a sequel. The developer of this series went on to do Amnesia afterwards and it seems they haven't looked back unfortunately. I'd REALLY love another Penumbra game. It had great puzzles, horror, and a fantastic storyline about the main character and everything he goes through. The ONLY bad thing about this game was the combat in the first chapter, although thankfully that can be fixed with a simple .ini file tweak. Either way, if you love horror games this series is an ABSOLUTE MUST BUY.

Brutal Legend

Ignore the haters, this game is AMAZING

If you've ever loved heavy metal then buy this game. I think that's basically all I need to say. People like to complain about the RTS sections in this game. In context it is made into what are called Stage Battles. Eddie Riggs (you) sprouts wings from his back allowing him to fly over the battlefield. Your guys have a stage from which to spawn characters (like a home base). There are geysers which spit out fans which are the materials used to make fighters. You use your fighters to take over more fan geysers eventually going after your enemy's stage (base). At any time during one of the fights you can swoop down into a huge brawl and take out some baddies yourself before leaping into the sky again, ready to fly across the map to find more guys to fight. The rest of the game consists of you doing all sorts of missions for people throughout the story, there are also loads of collectible goodies (like songs for your radio) and others which give your guy power ups. There are also a handful of side missions to goof off with too. In the end, if you love heavy metal this game is AMAZING. You'll have a blast hearing the real musicians voice people in the game, and the story is very funny and majorly epic in a way only true heavy metal can be. Now if only this GOG version of the game came with the full hundred song soundtrack...

Slender: The Arrival

What's with all the hate?

So I'm playing through this game now and I gotta say I have NO IDEA why this game has 2 stars. I'm guessing people don't like Slenderman or the Slender mythos or something. Other than THAT, I really cannot understand the intense hate for this game. No it isn't very long, but because of the nature of Slendy's powers and the constant stalking nature of his Proxy (third level is the first appearance) it keeps things fresh on each playthrough and while the story is light, it is there and available to experience the more the player invests into the game. If you explore and find notes and items, you'll see a story emerge that you wouldn't know about otherwise. The gameplay is simple for the most part but if you ever once enjoyed Slender The Eight Pages then this game is leaps and bounds beyond that. It is immensely better in every aspect. In fact with the newest update to the game they included a remake of the original Eight Pages game using the new game engine made for this game. If you've EVER found Slenderman creepy and wanted a fun game starring him to creep you out, THIS game is the only one you should play (and Slender Rising for mobile devices is great too, but not nearly as good as this). He's been overexposed in loads of crappy independent games the last year or two but this one is unquestionably the best. If you don't have a nicer computer, dial a few settings back and you should be fine otherwise you might get lower FPS.

Rayman 2: The Great Escape

One of the best games ever made...ever.

Like the title states, Rayman 2 is one of the greatest games ever made. The joy and creativity found within this game is unsurpassed by almost no one else. Rayman is one of the most enjoyable and joyous characters to exist in gaming. His Yippee and yahoo he sometimes exclaims as I make a jump or rebound off an object just puts a smile on my face every time. Rayman is one of the best characters ever made for any game series. If only he were more popular. Rayman should stand next to Sonic and Mario being one of the most loved and recognized characters in gaming. He's not quite there yet, but thankfully every Rayman game ever made (1-3, Origins, Jungle Run) has been spectacular. Rayman 2 is gaming perfection. It is a must buy. It's very difficult sometimes but there's also joy to be had when you finally pass a difficult section. Rayman 2 stands as one of the greatest games ever created. While it's been ported to almost every system that could handle it over the past 10 years, there's never a time when I see the game on a new system that I don't want to revisit this world.

Far Cry® 2: Fortune's Edition

Great game, not like the first, but good in its own way

So this game is NOT like the first Far Cry. Far Cry is more like that dev's second game Crysis. In face Crysis is pretty much Far Cry 2 in a sense, but the FC franchise was handed off to Ubisoft Montreal for the actual sequel. Far Cry 2 is a great game. In fact, three years ago after I got my first gaming laptop, Far Cry 2 was the first game I bought for it. I wanted a great, new game that would show off my new (at the time) computer's capabilities. And this game is quite good at doing that. The game play is quite different from the first game. While in the first game you're left to go where you want most of the time, there's still typically a "right" way to go to finish the area. This game however, does away with any pretense of direction. You take missions when you want and can work for either side of the war any time you like. Missions typically take you to new places (assuming you're doing faction based work) and allow you to approach the area from different sides in order to figure out your own path to completing the mission. One mission in which you have to take down a compound allows for several ways of approach. You can drive up to the front or back gate, use a boat to come in from another side, or you can swim up to the boathouse (I did all of these for this particular mission) and take the guys out stealthily in order to get closer before blasting the place. There's always another way to go about doing something and the game gives you plenty off freedom in this regard. If you have no missions however you might be wandering around for quite a while to finally find one, assuming you don't know where to go yet. This might seem boring or directionless at first but once you learn where to find new missions, things get a lot more fun. Driving by each enemy camp sees a relatively short but often enjoyable fight. Some people have complained that the enemies at the checkpoints along the roads respawn, but why would you want to drive across such a vast world and after a while, never find anybody to blow up? It's more like Metroid. Clear an area, but keep an eye out for another fight when you come back through. Unfortunately all the animals are more tame creatures. Zebras and gazelle and things like that. No lions, hippos, or tigers despite the vast African plains and jungles. Oh well. Every once in a while one of them will jump in front of your car and die with a fantastic thud. All you need to know is that this game is loads of fun. There are tons of missions and new guns and other weapons and vehicles to upgrade and there's always bad guys to blow up and buildings to burn down. Go buy this game and HAVE A BLAST!

Police Quest Collection

Must Buy? Certainly.

My aunt had this disc when I was a kid. I would play these games all the time. Even as a kid I found them somewhat difficult however the great stories and fun exploration was always what kept me coming back. These are some of the biggest classic point and click adventure games of all time. You should DEFINITELY take the time to pick this one up. If you have ever enjoyed any point and click adventure games then you've got to buy this one.
