Super Catboy

Very well made

This is the first 2d platformer I've played in a while that both handles well and looks good

Master of Magic

Inferior to the original, but faithful

The gameplay is the same as the original but the new version runs much slower and the units are harder to tell apart. Given that the new version running slow is the biggest difference between the two games, you're better off buying the original.

Fun & charming, with a positive message

I binged the entire thing over the course of a week or so because I was so engrossed in the plot

Quake II

Worse than Quake 1 in every possible way

Everything about this game is worse than the first Quake. The combat is janky, the enemies are a mess, the level design is terrible, the plot and setting are banal, it somehow even looks worse despite the graphics being more advanced from a technical perspective, and it has absolutely nothing to do with the first game except for the name.

POSTAL: Brain Damaged

Excellent game, despite slow start

This is one of the most fun games I've played in a while. I found myself routinely staying up until 2:00 or 3:00 in the morning playing it. I like the humor and the mid-to-late-game gameplay. The level design was also very good, I didn't get lost as often as I usually do when I play these kinds of games. That said it doesn't really find its stride until a few levels in; The first three levels or so have issues with balance and pacing (such as the lack of ammo and pickups that others have mentioned) but once you get to around level four it's great. I very nearly gave the game a lower rating while I was still on these earlier levels but I'm glad I didn't because the late game is excellent. Just keep at it. Also, in regard to what other reviewers have said about the lack of health and ammo, there are a bunch of powerups that you can eventually pick up and use when needed that allow you to refill your health, armor, or ammo, and I personally had a bunch of extras of all of these left over at the end of each episode of the game. The game actually in general gives you a lot of extra stuff that's cool but isn't strictly needed. Part of the difficulty as a beginner is realizing that these things are very niche and that you shouldn't rely on for example the projectile reflection ability or the time freezing time bombs or the urine powerups. Although they are cool

Chroma Squad

Fresh

I like that the tactical combat in this game has a lot of fun unique mechanics. The story is fun too.

Master of Orion 1+2

THE definitive space 4x game

The defining and still the best game of the genre. Unlike its many imitators, the ship design process is neither overcomplicated nor shallow, there's tactical combat, and unlike the Endless Space series the fleet and system management never bog down to the point where it takes 20 minutes to take one turn. Also, it processes AI turns quickly, once you take your turn you go immediately to the next turn (again, unlike games like Endless Space where there's upwards of 30 seconds of dead time between turns)
