In short, this game is just as addictive as ever! I'm so glad I can finally play it on a modern machine again. Even though the player count online is far lower than it used to be, it took about the same amount of time to get into a game as it used to back in the day, you just can't be as picky. It is an old game though, so you may need to tweak your port settingst to get it working. The group of people I played with tonight were a great bunch, and I'll definitely be playing this more in the future. Thanks GOG!
Great game! In my memory at least. This game is pure nostalgia. You forget how terrible the controls were. The graphics also bad compared to what is available today, but no worse than what lots of indie developers get away with. The absolute worse part of this one is the AI pathing though, and you units inability to effectively engage opponents without your constant attention. WarCraft I is, at it's core, a babysitting game. Without your constant attention, your units simply will not do what you want them to. Still, this is the game that started the legend, and for me at least, it still holds a lot of fond memories in those hugantic pixels. If you have never played the original WarCraft, you might find this one a little frustrating, but if you experienced the game when new, it is certainly worth $6 for the memories. Or even better, get the combo pack with WarCraft II BNE included! That game is still pure gold. IMHO, it is the pinnacle of the classic RTS genre, and everything still holds up even today. Everyone who loves RTS games should give it a try.
Of course I'm gonna buy these games! I've been trying to get my old copy of War2BNE to work on Windows 10 for ages now. Can't wait to slaughter my enemies with a horde of dragons again! I also have many fond memories of the original WarCraft, it will be fun to go through a few levels in it as well!
