Marketed as an RPG, it is probably best described as an action game with RPG elements. If it helps think of it like the Witcher. Geralt is a set character, you can do various different things, but you never really change him. Consider V to be the same in this respect. Character creation again was touted as being this amazing tool, unfortunately, it is quite generic and a lot more limited than it could of been, to illustrate, i saw the Male V Pop figure in a store, it looked exactly like my V. It starts off well enough as it quickly directs you to the opening quest which then further tunnels you into the intro of how the game works and spits you out - unfortunately despite the three options you are given for life paths, it all condenses down the same. V speaks like a street punk most of the time and your life path offers you some limited extra dialogue choices. At no time did it feel that my starting path was relevant. It feels as though this aspect was cut heavily from the game. The main quest line gets much, much better as you progress, it starts off weak. The most value you get though is via side quests, some are truly AAA stuff. There are some excellent characters who you will remember for a long time. By the end of the game you will have been challenged on ethics, humanity and the establishment, rather than granting answers it will only leave questions for you to consider. Gameplay wise; driving is relatively terrible, no damage modelling to really speak of. There is a terrible gameplay decision to have numerous police teleport behind you when a "crime" is committed and the inventory and PC controls are terribly outdated, many times I was left performing an action i didn't want to as a key can do multiple things at once in context and the game doesn't always recognise that context. Gun play and melee are generic. Despite this i did enjoy myself very much, you have to perservere to reach the good though. Patches will make this game a classic.
