Hollow Knight: Silksong

Devs seeking masochists

I played hollow knight in 2018. I've been waiting for this 7 years. What is this game? It's not just hard. I'm fine with hard. This game is sadistic by design. I finished beating last judge yesterday at 2 AM. Guess what? He explodes. Guess what? It kills you usually. Guess what? It wipes your progress. Meaning you fight him again. So I beat him the second time. I hated fighting beastly. Sister splinter. Tight fight spaces and bosses spawning enemies that shred you dealing 2 mask dmg. You are signing up to be abused at this point by artificial difficulty. Not real one. This is not good game design. It's tedious runback and tight arenas for fights with spawns that shred you. The beastly fight shreds you. I haven't found upgrades in the last 25 hours or so? None of the charms are useful. None of the weapons are good enough. I absolutely hate how bosses give no beads. The game tries to wipe you clean you need to pay 20 all the time to make rosaries. Always sacrificing 25% until you unlock bellhart. You need to also use the wanderer crest. Everything else feels just awful. I freaking hate how useless the beastly crest is due to dive down... What a lame design. Do you expect people to even attempt getting used to this crap? Too bad it has the coolest effect with the crappiest dive move. Economy is bad. Pay for benches everywhere. Homeless people would laugh at you for paying for benches from across the road in the park. I waited 7 years for this. 7 freaking years. I want a hard as hell game but not this lame design with artificial difficulty. It's not tactical. It's mindless and RNG based. You pray beastly spawns normal bugs and not the big ones that shred. Upgrades are extremely scarce and you just don't feel it. Shards are such a bad design. You encounter a boss and if you try to play seriously and use up your weapons for 10 encounters you're wiped 500+ shards. You'll have to grind. That's right. This is a farming game as well. Because bosses give nothing. Tons of enemies give shards only and only like 4-5. It's such a terrible design. Then they design a magnet like HK swarm that picks beads but not shards..... Lmao ok team cherry. I freaking hate team cherry now. I bought HK as my first digital game ever. I just had to buy it. Before that I used to download everything you know.... It holds such a dear place in my heart. I dare say Silksong was obviously rushed. 7 years were not enough. Plenty of game design jank around runbacks and benches being 3 - 4 maps away from bosses. The upgrades aren't any good. The bosses fights are trash and unfair in many instances. Yeah I've beaten them. But then I got to beastly the second..... Turns out they added a 4 hits with upgraded nail primal aspid that spits lava that sticks to the platform and exploads. Beastly rush attacks should kill the spawns. I don't get this game design it's so bad and inconsistent. Also the beastly dive attack only kills the spawn if it's at the floor or near it. Seriously? Otherwise it goes through? Are you for real? Who even designed this? It's so bad. What a let down. All I can say is it needs fixing. Badly. The game demonstrates sadistic tendencies that are praised as difficulty and that's just ultra annoying. The simps need to stop. Exploration is solid 9/10 only thing I dislike is how futile it feels due to meaninglessness of any upgrades you get or obtain. Such is life. I've taken a couple of minutes to type this. But it's ok. I won't be playing this anymore. Haha... Primal aspid with 4 hits health and lava exploding attack that deals 2 masks damage, sticks to map elements and platforms and explodes. What a joke.

Spiritfarer®: Farewell Edition

Mediocre at best

The game is about building a dream ship for ghosts. Here's the thing: Progression feels like a chore with night cycles. Exploration isn't rewarding at best you're getting certain items. Nothing special. Game could use refinement, for example if you cook food that someone enjoys they could be waiting outside the kitchen telling you how nice it smells. The game is supposed to be a touchy feely kind of journey but the way you get resources and all is a chore and makes it not fun. The navigation system is just boring and you're waiting to get somewhere most of the time or sleeping through the night because there is nothing to be done. For a comfort game it feels like a dull slow chore to me.

Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom

Nice concepts, terrible execution

Yes I will most likely finish this. There are many issues that I just hate: 1) Blocking is automatic, you will legit not know if your character will block a fireball, it's automatic and probably dependent on an angle, god knows what it is inconsistent and clunky. 2) Movement is clunky and so is striking, this doesn't feel modern at all, such a shame. 3) Platforming, the dev is a confirmed sadist, tons of platforming underwater and the currents require PERFECT joysticks and jumps include the volcano area. 4) Respawn is pain, you will enjoy figuring things out a bit, but mostly you will just hate this nonsensical sadism that masquerades as a metroidvania, just because it's pissing you off doesn't mean it's doing well. This is nowhere as refined as any of the fine metroidvanias outthere like Hollow Knight and Dead Cells. You will have to walk far if you miss the volcano portal. The map doesn't update which area is complete, it shows overall progression and whatever is left is just left as is. Objectives completed aren't checked, you cannot track what you missed. 5) Jank mechanics just to fill the game up, such as the toad's tongue, that misses a lot due to painful inaccuracies. The game should be hard combat wise and combat is overly simplistic and not fun, parrying being automatic is a huge negative. I love the concept, the execution takes so much away from this game. You don't have to fill every area with bats... For god's sake, the combat isn't rich enough to handle these annoying things. You have to dance around them to not lose HP, it's not fun, there is nothing else that you can do. If only combat was well designed. Essentially this is just a puzzles game. Nice idea for transformations lots of areas are overly repetitive and it gets so unfun, especially the temple and volcano. The game's combat should be redesigned to reward parrying and it should be manual.

Dead Cells

Perfection

Combat is greater than anything I've ever imagined.... I used to think Hollow Knight was the king of 2D. The weapon diversity here us just amazing.

Hollow Knight

A classic adventure game.

Let's just say that this is the first time I ever buy a game. After I pirated this game I just had to buy it. Not just cause of the free DLCs but cause the devs deserve it. Just.... Wow. Wow. Wow... It doesn't get any better this this. Wow. The game starts out slowly but you have to be willing to explore. There is no linear gameplay route, it's about going around and exploring. This is how every single adventure game should be. Let alone the progression and the brilliance of the puzzles of this game, the art, the soundtracks and the vastness of the playstyle and the experience. This is hands down the best game I have ever played so far in my entire life. This is just the gem I have been looking for. Rich in content, extremely challenging, great progression system and perfectly designed maps and bosses. It's so much fun you're always looking forward to the next thing exploring going back and forth and figuring things out. This game is such a masterpiece. I'm happy to support the devs with whatever paid DLCs they'll be putting out in the future. This game is pure genius. No amount of words in any order will describe how lucky I felt stumbling across this game. At first it didn't seem like much but as I played it more and more I got hooked after a couple of hours. To think that human beings are capable of creating such engaging fun mentally stimulating content has really put things into perspective for me. Maybe this raised the bar way too damn much. Maybe I'll never find anything to ever compete with it. I surely hope they'll still be releasing more and more DLCs. Cause I know that for as long as I'll be playing this game, it's going to be a blast. Thank you for this.
