A Plague Tale: Innocence

Fraught stealth

The scene setting is amazing, the world lives, breathes, and dies around you. The drama is fraught with tension and the desire to see what's next held me for an hour or so. However, the gameplay seemed limited to small arena based stealth. I found some scenes tricky (probably because I was impatient when throwing stones to distract guards) and I found redoing a small scene several times really showed me the small box I was in. I felt the game was most enjoyable when my ability was able to carry me throught the scene by the skin of my teeth, first try. A personal note: I left the game for some time and then tried to get back into it. However, I found the subject matter too stressful. IMO this is an acheivement; the nature of encroaching disease and evil, married with two young siblings trying to escape certain death from totalitarian religious fanatics was a bit too intense for me presently. (My kids are the same age and the pandemic is stressful lol) I would reccomend giving it a try.

Disco Elysium

Rarely have I been so entertained

I've loved a good adventure since the 1980s, thru a CPU or tabletop. Here, the detail is very impressive. From the art to the dialogue and a feel of an unknown world; the best way to experience it begins from an amnesiac hangover. I'm so glad I knew nothing about the game. I still don't know my character's name or portrait. This is because choices advance time and, as there are so many, sometimes it's best to leave things unsaid or undone. "Failure"is very entertaining, I have laughed more in my initial hours that I can recall with other games. The stark nature of the dark humour riffs well with me. Rebinding controls would be nice, as would controller support. However, mostly a mouse suffices (TAB to highlight objects would be great to rebind as I can't marcos it to mouse 4+, maybe it's my issue alone tho). Still, the game looks beautiful on a big screen. Therefore, a controller in one hand and slouched on the sofa with a drink in the other would fit my character's tone perfectly. Your character could and likely will be completely different. Disco Elysium has impressed itself on me well, amid the thousands I have played over the years. I hope you will feel similarly.
