Teenagent

Average

Another generic adventure game at a time when generic adventure games were released a dim a dozen. Graphics are bland, the character models are really terrible, sound is meh. The gameplay is streamlined no cluttered screen menu scrolling or anything. It's cheesy, which can be good or bad depending on how you look at it. The name Teen Agent makes me cringe, but this was the 90's when adolescent scamps like Bart Simpson were idolized. Now it's not so amusing, just cheesy. The dialogue can be funny at times in a LucasArts kind of way even though it's not a LucasArts game. Overall it's really an unimpressive game, and even below average in some aspects. It's free so, you decide, mostly I felt like it was a waste of my time.

Lure of the Temptress (1992)

Sub Par Adventure Game

When I found out this game was made by the same team that made Beneath A Steel Sky I was hopeful. Unfortunately this is far below the quality of BASS. Not only that, but this game came out the same year as King's Quest VI (1992) another medieval themed fantasy game. King's Quest VI is one of the greatest adventure games of all time. This game is much more like the older more archaic King's Quest games. The ones from the 80's with very little in the way of sound or music, had bland graphics, and too much trial and error style gameplay. Really the noises in this game are so grating, the gameplay is awkward. It's not a good game. But it's free, you might find some enjoyment. But even something free costs you precious time you could be playing better games.

Beneath a Steel Sky (1994)

Great Game!

I didn't play this game back in the day, so I played this with modern day gaming eyes and was blown away. First of all the graphics are great, the attention to detail and work it must've taken to do all of that by hand is amazing. The story is good at times very dark and at other times absurdly humorous. Some surprisingly adult stuff, even a little nudity, though nothing explicit or in bad taste. The voice work is pretty solid, though the various UK accents of some of the side characters can get quite grating even though the acting is never bad. The puzzling is solid, at no point did I feel like I've done this or that puzzle in a some other adventure game. The game has a great cyberpunk sci-fi noir feel to it, even some steampunk maybe. The soundtrack is good, nothing terribly memorable, but it's good. The sound design is great, there's always some background noise or sound affects that add ambience and life to the scenery. Really this has become one of my favorite adventure games of all time, it's in my top 10 for sure. I highly recommend, especially since it's free.
