I love strategy games, and I am always on the look for the best ones. This one, is the best rts for me. I remember the beginning, cd copy and no expansion, I didn't understand anything of the resources, and left the game away. Then some time later I came back and boy oh boy, what a BIG game. Three factions, four in the expansion (stand alone, play SupCom just for the three stories to take your hand with the three human factions). Apparently they are just reskins of one another, same factories and buildings, but in reality every one has its own strenght and weaknesses, and needs some time to master well. Land, air and naval warfare. Air is planes flying around, not standing still levitating. When they run off of fuel they get super slow, and need to refuel somewhere. As someone said, every projectile is simulated. See that big base wiping flying eon unit? With a bit of luck and calculation and an attack ground, your artillery can get it down (years ago I mastered to take down Czars with mavors and t3 artilleries). The thing I loved the most of this game: "automation". It appears in different ways, my favourites being planes on patrol mode around the base, or where I need them: when they run out of fuel, or they take damage, they automatically fly to a refuel and repair station, and come back. This patrol, you can set already from ONE factory, and the other factories helping the first one. Automatic transport. Take your transport, right click to the land factory, and they automatically will ferry units to the gathering point of the land factory. Very useful and nice to see. BIG maps. 81x81 km is the maximum in vanilla iirc. Music: Jeremy Soule. Nuff said Forged Alliance Forever. Search for it and see how this game is still alive and beating. No games have even reached it. This game has plenty of Strategy. Maybe it sounds redundant, but it is important. You can outwit the opponent, not just win by having the better "army composition" or something else.
First of all, I own it on Steam, and at the time I bought the disc at a store, long time has passed. As you may read in other reviews, SupCom 2 is somewhat inferior to SupCom Forged Alliance, so I will not get into a comparison between the two games, only talk about this one, for those who don't know it. What is written in the description of the game is true, large armies, upgradeable units, good enough story, cool, big battle good to see and to fight. Interesting maps, really interesting experimentals units (some of them) for each faction (3), and not very hard to grasp. Yes, it is inferior to Forged Alliance, less complex and more noob-friendly (expecially resource management). Still, a very good game, it is fun, it shall entertain you for many hours, I recommend it.
Hello all. This is just an HD overhaul, like the Stronghold ones, not a remastered version or at least, a very poor one. Little UI changes, no "quality of life" improvements, I do not feel to suggest this game over the non HD version of it. I give it three stars for it is still Praetorians, a good old classic, that sadly has not aged very well in my opinion. But overall this HD is not a passing grade. Take old version instead
Do you know all the times you read somewhere that gamers have better reflexes, better eye-hand coordination etc? This is the kind of game that give you that, with his training minigames. Also, it is very entertaining, and very good both as a time dump, if you can play only sometimes (watch out not to sink too many hours in it in this case), or as a game to dedicate yourself. "Strategically" speaking is a little easy, but the training sessions are difficult, fun and satisfying. Also the fights, they scale well in my opinion, and a correct management of the skills will give you great satisfaction. I like this game, and I recommend it.
