Creepy atmosphere, strange but intriguing mysteries, tense, simple combat, enough character interaction to stay interesting but little enough to keep you feeling alone and vulnerable, and no major western cliches. The 3rd-person semi-fixed camera feels very fresh and natural after years of FPSs, over-the-shoulder cam, and orbital cam with lock on and is intentionally designed to limit what you can see ahead. This isn't about sliding into cover and no-scoping competitors. It's everything I love about Asian horror games and a very rare complimentary combination with western horror and you don't need knowledge of previous games.
