The Gunk

Good game for a short experience

The story is just okay, I notice some rushed bits that didn't feel too naturally resolved, but it does the job. The visuals are pretty cool, the caracter design feels close to great but personally the proportions and textures feel a bit off to me, sorry to say. The exploration is pretty enjoyable, for a short game, the linearity doesn't substract from the experience, you look around while going throught the story and that's enough to get everything you need. The platforming is a bit janky with the yellow paint bits which are the only ledges you can grab onto, even if it made sense to grab on unpainted parts of that same ledge. The one thing i praise is that despite that, no mistakes felt out of my control or overly punished, so it's pretty enjoyable. The combat does the job, the game is basically about removing the gunk so having dozens of enemy types would have been bad, having each of them be defeated in different ways is a plus too. At last, scanning stuff was good at the start, and the problem it has isn't that you have to keep doing it, but that you actually barely have to do it after instead. I looking for things to scan in new areas and felt disappointed that several structures had no info about them. I can count the non-essential artificial stuff you can scan with one hand, and one of them is a chair, not even forcefields. In conclusion, game's good, doesn't make itself unnecessarily long or complex. It has flaws but they're bearable and nothing close to gamebreaking.
