I'm very late to the Witcher scene. I just picked it up because it was so hyped and I wanted to see how the company that makes the game I really want to play has done in the past (Cyberpunk 2077). I have to say... I knew due to the reviews and hype that it would be worth playing... but I was not expecting it to get so near the top of my best games all-time list. It has a fantastic story and I love the personality of the main character. I think what really makes this shine beyond something like Skyrim is the fact that there are so many side-quests that are not just bland time fillers. A lot of the side quests are such good, amazing stories in themselves. You're just just going through them to get xp without really paying any attention... you are engaged for so much of this game. Then add in that the gameplay is just solid. Nothing truly groundbreaking, but it's a lot of fun. I like the detective elements and the preparation for fighting a big monster. It's just a good solid all-around game that truly lives up to all the reviews and hype.
This game is perfect for me... it won't be perfect for everyone, but if you liked the old Mech Commander games, then you will love this game. I think it does a perfect job of taking the feel of the tabletop turn based game but adding a few much needed twists. The evasive chevrons for movement and the ability to guard add a lot of options and the initiative system really does let faster, lighter mechs shine if you learn how to use them properly. This game has a lot of meat to it and it will take some effort to master, but it is well worth it. The mercenary management part of the game is spot on and completely awesome. I have a beefy computer so I haven't had any performance or loading issues. But come on... are you really going to comdemn a turn based game that takes over half an hour to do one mission based on 30 seconds of load at the beginning of a mission? Especially when that will probably not be an issue some months from now. If you want, give the game a while to get a few patches... but if you have any interest in a turn based mech game, this is a gem. Voice acting is also excellent and deserves some mention.

I've put over 275 hours in on this game over multiple playthroughs. It's just plain fun. The combat is great... there are enough variety of skills and abilities to provide for interesting combos and the pacing is quite good for a turn based system. The story is pretty good and the game world is interesting. Overall the main characters are pretty interesting as well. It's one of those that pulls you in. The developers have a great sense of humour... just the right amount of fun vs seriousness in the story. Pacing and level and gold income vs need is right on par. Excellent stuff. And it's just plain fun. The only possible negative I would have to say is that shields are too powerful... it makes it hard to consider certain play styles when you realize how much you are giving up not having one. Other than that the balance is pretty darn good.
