I have played + won all Beginner scenarios + have over 500 hours in as of 8/21/21. It kills me that it just pops up in the middle of nowhere and says "You have Won"!!! Getting reay to start Veteren (2 Skull contracts) level. LOL, worth every minute of it, whether I am cussing it/Yelling at it/or giving myself a high 5 for completing BEGINNER scenarios!!! ' do it agian in a heartbeat!!
This is the first of two WarHammer games with the same characters. The Shadow of the horned rat is really a good game in EVERY way....except one. You have to get use to a somewhat complicated interface in getting them to respond in battle. You will learn it Ok by midway thru the game. I also beat it (on the 10th time saving all the way) but I am a perfectionist...I don't want to lose even 5 men. so this means a lot of saves. You REALLY have to be careful what and where you chose to fight and WHICH and HOW MANY troops you take with you (these ARE mercenaries remember). No Gold, no recruiting...If you get too beat up, it takes a lot of gold to replenish...starting to get the drift. The missions get more complicated and really do leave you with a feeling of satisfaction when you win one and have little losses. I won't tell you which ones to take as you have to take your beating like the rest of us...but at 5 bucks. Trust me, I would rather play this game (it is real time) just as much as Shogun. There is a sequel called WarHammer Dark Omen. They use the same guys, have streamlined the interface, changed from recruiting to getting troops as you go along the scenario's (but still need to not lose too many men and COLLECT that gold!!! Good Luck... Buy Shadow of the Horned Rat it IS worth 20 to 60 hours easy of play....Dark Omen will be along sometime after everyone sees this one...Good Luck!!!
I can't add much more to the excellent reviews on here (as they have covered most aspects completely) except to say this... i played it to the end as the Mage AND the Warrior Though I never could beat the final scene as the warrior, my own lack of skill I suppose. The big draw to this game is you DO have to figure out HOW to proceed even when it seems impossible (trust me it IS possible), and it draws you deeper into the game until you won't quit until you see it through. I played it twice and then gave the game to a children's home...I am going to get it again and see if the warrior in me CAN win the game. I recommend it as it is inexpensive and you old timers might have missed it. You will get your monies worth!!
