A lot of people will probably feel obliged to play this after playing everything else in the series, but it's a stark contrast to the usual quality of Metal Gear games. You play any other game in the Solid series and it's all hollywood plots, long cutscenes, crazy, out-there lore, extremely high levels of detail, fun stealth mechanics and interesting little fourth wall breaks. In this game, there's none of that. It's more or less an arcade game, but even by those standards, it's not even remotely fun. If you're interested in the story and lore and feel compelled to go back to this game to experience it, you'll be disappointed by the complete lack of any story. There's zero depth to it. The fundamental "you're in outer heaven, you gotta destroy metal gear" is laid down at the very beginning of the game and then the plot suddenly ceases to exist until the end. 90% of the codec calls just give you instructions on what to do next rather than introducing any kind of plot. The gameplay is nothing even slightly remarkable. It's barebones, doesn't even resemble the stealth gameplay of the later games and is actually just outright frustrating at times. The most criminal part of this game is that many people probably played this, realized it's awful and then didn't play Metal Gear 2, assuming it was the same, but it's actually way better. You might as well just consider Metal Gear 2 the official start to the series because there's nothing about this game that even resembles a metal gear game except the name.
