I was not expecting the game to be great when I initially backed it, the challenge of making such an epic story work seemed to be a recipe for disaster and oh how I was wrong. If you've played Pathfinder: Kingmaker before: All of the stuff that was good in Kingmaker is still good there and there's even more on the side of customisation of your character, more options for character builds. There's great memorable characters. The crusade mechanic is not for everyone but it is much less demanding than Kingmaker's realm management so it serves the purpose of making you feel like a hero commander. Is it the perfect game? Certainly not, it's got a few things that could be better but no game is perfect. However, it is great and definitely a success if you're not repulsed by the setting. If you haven't played Pathfinder: Kingmaker before: Gameplay wise: This game truly is in the same vein as Baldur's Gate but up to modern standards. It has both Turn-based and Real Time With Pause fights implementations. The pathfinder system gives a lot of depth to the system if you enjoy breaking balance but it also has a lot of difficulty options if you'd rather not focus on the fights. Story wise: It is grandiose, it is epic, can't be for everyone but the game is good at making you feel the epic scale of the story. The game moves away really quickly from the "nobody who grinds up the ranks" trope of most similar games to get into epic scale fights and battles. In this game, you'll deal with cosmic beings and become respected or feared by foes that were impressive in others. This game has a lot of options to let you build characters with very different vibes. Not all the options are great in quality but all of the ones I've played have been at least good. The game is pretty long so you may get burnt out before end but even if you do, it's still a good time and you can always come back to it another time! 5/5, not for perfection but for great fucking game!
