When other games try to be minimalistic, they failed. Mirrors Edge achieves a minimalist art style that is so purposeful and refreshing. And it ties in with the story. As a runner you focus on how to parkour your way from A to B. The visuals are scaled back and tastefully realistic, while still providing a unique viewpoint. The successor to this game tries to wow you with futuristic vistas and graphics. Mirrors Edge 1 just feels more realistic and visceral. On top of that, the music is perfect! It ranges from tranquil and soothing, to intense and powerful. The game can be played in 6-10hours. But it is highly rewarding to look for hidden bags that unlock artwork. Can highly recommend this game.
This is my favorite game of all time. Let me tell you what is so special about it. First of all, this game is art. It has this great music from french composer Christoph Héral that complements this fantastical and wonderful world of Beyond Good and Evil. I also loved the characters which you really learn to like over the course of this game; they are thoroughly written and designed. And then there is this story of an aggressor that keeps to diminish the population. Are the "alphas" really protecting us? Where do they come from? You do not answer that by brutally murdering every bad looking face. You act smarter than that. You document the truth with your camera and defend yourself from the evil with your staff weapon if necessary. You have to solve many puzzles and sneak around in most cases. You even have two crazy vehicles during the game... but I dont want to spoil the game. The world also contains A TON of mini games. From racing to board games, to photographing animals. you see. The only downside is the lack of a sequel! This was planned as a trilogy and you really want to know more at the end. *sadface* :(
