Resident Evil

The start of 3D survival horror holds up

This is just for the Jill version playthrough, will update when I complete the Chris side. So honestly this game was incredibly good with only really one downside and while minor I wasn't that bothered by it in the end. The level design is incredible, pretty intuitive and you stay just long enough in every area that the backtracking really doesn't have time to become a problem, enemy placement is good and the overall feel of tight corridors with it's methodical gameplay just screams 10/10. The music is overall really good the same with the backtracking you don't really stay long enough in any one area that you start getting annoyed by the looping soundtracks, plus the background music really only takes a background role so when combat does happen you really don't notice it. The survival horror aspect is really good in this one, you really feel the need to conserve ammo and in some cases really try to run around or keep yourself away from different encounters. I completed the game with 10 magnum rounds and basically all the bazooka ammo unused just because I feared that I would run out if I used it during the main gameplay. Now back to the small issue(s) I had while playing, the hunters in the second mansion phase is annoying as hell, just the fact that some rooms are populated with two of them and it's a coin toss if one of them gets to sucker punch you as soon as the room loads feels annoying at best and downright unfair at worst. That plus the stronger zombies that respawn(?) during the lab sequence was also an annoyance to deal with, luckily I barely used the pistol so I had ammo to spare but I understand that some are put in much tougher situations than me. But other than that the game is a gem that I definately recommend giving a try, though I understand that the HD remake is a much more enjoyable experience for basically anyone.
