Labyrinth Of The Demon King

A Short But Incredible Experience

I really enjoyed everything about this game, but what really stood out to me were the sound design and the visuals. Together they create an eerie audiovisual experience which makes those brief moments of respite feel especially soothing. Personally I am not a big fan of horror games because I get scared too easily, but this ended up being an exception. The game is scary (by virtue of the setting) but its goal is not to scare you (there are no jumpscares for example). The gameplay is a mix of simple, but satisfying combat and puzzle solving as you slowly make your way through the labyrinth. Out of all the King's Field like games I've played I would say I enjoyed the combat of this game more than others, as it feels like a good balance between modern movement styles (no tank controls, sprinting, jumping) while still remaining slow and methodical in its approach. The puzzle solving never felt annoying or obtuse, but still tricky enough to make you think for a bit. Although there is back-tracking involved in the level design, the areas were small enough or included shortcuts, so it never felt tedious. I came away from it wishing there was a bit more to play, but I enjoyed my time with it and will probably return for a repeat playthrough at some point to try out some of the other weapons.
