I'm still fairly new to 4X TBS games, and this one has deepened by enjoyment for the genre. I played the campaign mode which was challenging and fun. I deducted one star because I feel the campaign could be one or two scenarios shorter for an overall better experience, but it was well worth the time spent.
This was a fun game, took me about 45 hours (I did pretty much every side quest) and the play time worked out just right I thought. It's not a perfect game, a few of the mechanics get tiresome like encumbrance, but it wasn't overly difficult, just challenging enough, only had to look at a guide a couple of times to figure out something. One might see that it's free and be skeptical, but if you're into the crpg genre with turn based combat, an interesting storyline, and a fun alchemy system, it is definitely worth the time to play through.
This was my first time playing a 4X, and the combination of it with being a CRPG was fantastic! The RPG portion was a bit scaled back, but was interesting enough to keep my interest along with the turn based combat. Can't wait to continue moving through the series! This is definitely worth your time and money!
Finished the first of the series and enjoyed it, although towards the end it felt like it dragged on a bit long and removing one or two parts of the quest along the way would not have hurt the game overall. The final castle was difficult, my party swung and missed quite often, but all in all I enjoyed the world and the storyline. I've played many of the all time classics so it was good to finally jump into this series as well. Hopefully Guardians of Destiny will be as enjoyable.
If you're like me, you gotta start at the beginning of the story right? Arena was my first foray into the Elder Scrolls worlds. I had some fun playing the game, but it required patience at times as well. I don't mind a linear storyline, I grew up playing crpg's where they were pretty much all linear. But the formula being exactly the same every time got a little tiresome. The game also had a very regular habit of waiting until I walked through a room to populate the monsters, so inevitably I was getting hit in the back multiple times before I could start fighting. Overall it was fun and worth the time to kick off the series, I'm hoping Daggerfall has some improvements.
When Wasteland originally came out, I was a big crpg fan having played the Ultima, Bard's Tale, and M&M games that had come out to that point. A post apocalyptic crpg was definitely something different, and I decided to give it a try. Needless to say I loved it, and by my 20's when I stepped away from crpg's I always lamented it never having gotten a sequel (yes I know Fallout was basically it's spiritual sequel). Fast forward to a couple of years ago I decide to get back into crpg's and find GOG! Not only did I immediately purchase and play the original Wasteland, but low and behold Mr. Fargo finally got his sequel which is near the top of my back log of games to play next, with Wasteland 3 right behind it. If you enjoy post apocalyptic crpg's and you've never played the Grandfather of them all, what are you waiting for?!?
Completed 1 - 3 as a teenager on my C64 back when these first came out. I found GOG a couple years back looking to relive some of my old favorites just like this. I've now completed M&M 1 and am 10 hours into 2, and it's great when games live up to your memories. The puzzles, the maps, the battles, all the fun takes me back and it's great. If you're younger, don't turn up your nose at these classics, give them a try and you'll see why they are a big part of the reason why the crpg genre has grown and continues to delight players still today!
I'm an old school crpg fan, grew up on the likes of Ultima, Bard's Tale, M&M, etc, that's what I originally came to GOG for. Along the way I've started trying other games that came after my long ago playing days, and Divine Divinity was one of the first I tried. I can't begin to tell you how much I enjoyed it. It has all the great classic elements of the great crpg's like intriguing storyline, interesting characters and npc's, fun magic and combat. And the ability to customize your skill tree no matter which class you chose was great! Can't wait to play the rest of the series, and I can't recommend this game enough, hope everyone enjoys it as much as I did!
As someone who played the original Bard's Tale Trilogy when they first came out, this was the game that lured me back into crpg's after being away for many years, and it did not disappoint. My experience was that it felt like a Bard's Tale game, while adding a lot of new things and updated graphics the originals of course didn't have. The puzzles were fun, the turn-based combat was challenging and the magic and items were great. If you grew up with or just like old school crpg's this game is a perfect "modern" successor in a great legacy world.
