While the engine and the gameplay is generally same as in the first two Eschalon games, the third one felt rushed, lacking polishness, feeling empty and boring. I really liked the first 2, and felt really dissapointed by the third one.
The game is brilliant in terms of production quality and visuals. Rather fun gameplay too, at least for me. Appealing to kids too (although a bit hard to control for the small ones). The only potential downside is the playtime (which is like 5 hours for one playthrough) and limited replayability. Definitely worth in in sale, not sure if for the full price.
This game is simply epic! I own it on other platform, and I cannot bow enough before the guy responsible of developing this gem. Yes, the micromanagement included in the game can be tiring, but the game is so beautiful, complex and deep!! The possibilities and replayability value are almost endless. And the community around the game is as awesome as the game itself, so every player should definitely use some of the many existing mods, ranging from adding new content to awesome QOL improvements!
Sorry, but I did not like the game. I'm big fan of medieval games and tactical combat, so this looked like a good choice for me. But in the end, I quit playing it quite fast: The game is not intuitive enough, and the tactical part feels too blunt - I did not really felt like there is a space for tactics at all. I think the strongest aspect of the game is the lore and the story, and that is something I was not really interested in.
I'm a hardcore player, and I have played sooo many games, with many of them having a special place in my heart - but there is very few if any games which have such a significant impact on my life like this one. I played it when it came out, and returned to replay it over and over again. The base game was very good, but still lacking, but once the Armageddon's Blade was released, with its much longer and more polished campaigns, the brilliance was achieved. I have replayed it every year for like 10 years in a row, and I still do but less often today. There is just very few games that gives you so nice time...
