You can get the same game (but better), with the same graphics and character model upgrades just by installing the SS2 Mod that's been around for yrs. This remaster makes ZERO sense. I appreciate NightDive, but this is a cash-grab. The character models actually look WORSE in this than in the mod. There is virtually NOTHING of benefit that has been added. It's like they just stole the mods, made some bad tweaks, and then packaged it as a remaster.
This game has great atmosphere and some interesting twists, but is RUINED by the tedious, terrible, pointless, plodding monster encounters that you experience on normal or hard modes. If you buy this game ONLY play it on SAFE mode/difficulty. It will ruin the game for you if you play on normal, etc. In fact it should not even have normal/hard difficulties because they're SO so bad. They destroy the immersion, exploration, and make the game BORING and FRUSTRATING.
How can a new game have such poor graphical coding??? I don't know what the devs were doing with this game, or if the atrocious graphics are the fault of Unreal Engine 4, but these graphics are inexcusably bad. It is impossible to get rid of the graininess and cross-hatching on every asset and surface. There is NO clarity. How did this game get past alpha? It is unfinished due to the graphics. Just get Hunter: Call of the Wild or any other hunting game. The graphical clarity (even if the game is 20yrs old) will surpass this game's.
As said in the title, this is really a long, mostly boring drawn-out interactive movie. A big step down from the first game. The majority of the gameplay is movie cut scenes and story padding. Unfortunately the story is nowhere near as interesting as Shady Pines and the Milkman Conspiracy. I'm a huge Psychonauts fan and I'm already bored with the game. It's a chore. Pros: same cast and voice actors + same style and feel of the 1st Cons: boring, drawn-out interactive movie "gameplay" + clunkier camera and fighting mechanics *The graphics and combat + camera operation of the first game are just as good or better than this sequel.
The combat, graphics, GUI, etc are all worse than in Original Sin 1. Really a shame that Larian regressed on this one. Still a pretty good game, but not on par with the first.
I listened to the positive ratings and I regret it. Pass on this one. I don't know how or why this game is so revered. The only explanation I have for the adoration this game receives is its conspiracy-heavy "love letter to Alex Jones" plot that some fans are convinced is a reflection of our "deep-state" world in game form. I'm pretty sure they see it as the one game that "red-pills" you with the "deep truth" about the Rockefellers & Rothschilds controlling the govt, etc. Generously, the game is just OK. But if I were being even-handed and measured in my rating I would skew towards calling this game BAD. The combat in this game is HORRENDOUS. The graphics are pretty bad (not TOO bad for the time, but not to the levels of Half-Life). General game mechanics are clunky and AWFUL. The missions and story are BORING. I'm honestly at a complete loss as to why this game is so revered. The one fun/novel aspect of the game is the minutiae of hacking and data log tie-ins to create traps/reveal secrets. That's it. That's all it has to offer. I pushed myself halfway through the game before relenting to my better nature and giving it up. The game is SO BORING. I wake up in the mornings with no desire to ever finish or play the game again. Deus Ex is often compared to System Shock 2 in tone, mechanics, overall greatness. Which, after playing Deus Ex, is a comparison that makes absolutely no sense. System Shock 2 absolutely blows Deus Ex out of the water. SS2 is a MONUMENTALLY better game and they're not even close to being in the same tier. This game is like if Perfect Dark & Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2 had a REALLY clunky, poorly designed software baby, and that baby was the Q'anon Shaman. Except that it's more boring than that and harder to control.
